The top 100 reasons 'Top 100 Lists' should be ignored.
64Another day, another "Top 10 list" that nobody but the writer actually agree's on. But this time, it's "Official".
Top 10 lists have been around for quite a long time now, and some often do give general advice that is quite handy. For example, the "Top 10 cars to buy on a budget" may allow the reader to buy a good car, for a low price. The "Top 10 Washing Machines" let you find a machine that does a job which is approved of by your high standards, and the "Top 50 reasons you should never listen to Justin Beiber."
However, most are just full of rubbish. Today on the MSN Homepage I noticed a list of the "Official Top 10 Holiday Destinations." Yes, yes, I know what you're thinking. "It'll allow the reader to find a nice holiday destination to go to this year." But, well not really. One man may enjoy camping in Scotland, the other may want to go to Cambodia, to shoot cows with rocket launchers. In all honesty, a Top 10 list of this caliber would have to change for every, single reader!
I actually read on in the article too, and I did agree with some of the places on the list, including New York, as I'd very much like to visit there.
However, that's not for everyone. And neither are many other of the places on this list.
This isn't the only example though. There have been thousands of lists produced, many the same but with different items on the lists, soon they'll be printing lists of "The top 100 places to poo - Officially."
Type in to Google, "Things to do before you die." It's quite morbid, but hang with me here.
On one list it says such exciting activities as "Attend a major sporting event." Another completely different list says "Take a cross country bike-ride." Neither have the other on each list. But why? Why are two lists, which have the same purpose some monumentally different?
Everyone's opinion. That's why.
If I created a list of the Top 100 Holiday Destinations I'd almost certainly say New York and Shanghai, amongst other places. But you're different. What would you choose. Most likely a beach in South Africa, or maybe a tour of the sewers in Paris. But that's not for me. It might be for you, but we are all different. We have our own opinions, and that's what makes us all so interesting. Well, everyone except Rebecca Black.
"Okay, but what does this mean for me?"
Well, kind reader. Have you ever wanted to go turd-spotting in Paris? Or would you prefer a trek through the Amazon?
Would you like to dine on Caviar in New York, or sip a Martini on a cruise ship?
Your answers will all be different I'm sure, but the lists are different. If you listen to their advice, are you getting the holiday you want? Or are you getting the holiday someone else wants?
So tell me, where are you wanting to go on Holiday?

Well said! Everyone is completely different and most lists with such a variety are pretty pointless to anyone but the reader. I live in Koh Samui but really want to go to Vienna on holiday - I'm sure most people would prefer the warmth of Thailand though!
HI hey it's good to see who I'm talking too! It's not that big of deal really, I think it's all personal preference. One of his hubs I questioned that nobody noticed an animal was being tested for a digital contact lens, now he has an icon, and never approved my post! But it looks like it could be human if you don't look closely at the post.
SimeyC don't delete your hub on movies, heck i'll be right over to check them out! I have two on comedies right now but I own about 1,000 dvd's so I've only touched the tip of my movie suggestions (and mine yes Ryan does include American Psycho.) Which i "ALMOST" got on blu ray, but i had to make a choice that day and that pawn shop is kinda high priced on their blu rays so I didn't get it, but I did carry it around a bit before my final decision. So at least I still have the DVD.. yeah freaky but good Psycho flick.
now, oh I don't agree anyone should delete their top 10 or 100 of anything, because it's a great way to get reviews on things, places and movies vacations! My next hub on movies (I try to stick to 10-20 as to not bore people with one too long ya know) I want to be on action/psychological thrillers! And that's out of character to me because I normally am not an action type movie person, but I think my all time fav action flick (as opposed to psycho flicks) is Crank and Crank 2. now those I had to get blu ray cos they are both amazing flicks! Wow, turd spotting.. um, maybe when you get a chance look into my bodily functions hub, that one alone gained me about 10 followers, that never posted directly TO me lol but sent a private that they loved it! lol To quote the almighty Jim Morrison "People are Strange" lol :)
lol@TheFascistMovie critic! LOL :) OH if you like a good thriller with FAST action.. trust me Crank & Crank 2 are great to see back to back! But don't blink, the guy HAS to stay on the run to stay alive!! It's super fast paced! I'm not normally into action movies, but this was the day I had both crank movies on blu ray picked out, so I had to pick the two above American Psycho. I HAD to have the Crank movies. If you rent them get both! Just a fascist suggestion LOL :)
Well I figure we gotta get used to it at some point. At least it was a good fascist suggest... I have more.. 30 Days of Nights, Dusk til Dawn.. great flicks.
That is an interesting list or more likely, interesting reasons, since you clearly didn't make a typical list that is numbered. I make lists for everything. But, I think I have realized that it doesn't really matter to many other people. It might be a good suggestion and a good starting point - but that is where lists end.
Great hub!
I wouldn't change the title at all. Honestly, that is what drew me in. Not that I really like lists, but I was honestly wondering how you could come up with 100 reasons to not do a list. I was like - wow - that is some dedication! LOL
LOL - too funny!
I know I can do the washing machine one! The worst is the bathtub and a stick! (yeah I really knew someone in this modern day that did hers this way. I guess it's one less reason to wonder why she committed suicide. (Ah, my little friend Amber, I know she would get a giggle out of that, even though she rarely even smiled. Was glad to be her friend for the time I had her) Couldn't get her to even load 'em up and come to my house. She said, it beats what our grandma's did, rub board & creek. Miss that girl I do. We used to watch movies over the phone together so neither of us had to go out lol ;) rip:Amber! only 26
I liked the title btw.

Aww man - I should delete my 'Top Ten Movies of all time' hub then! What about my '101 things to do the day before the world ends'....
Just creating my latest hub 'ten other destinations to go turd spotting apart from Paris'!
Interesting and mostly true read...thanks!
